CFL will give both amateurs a... moreFormed in September 2011 by Gary Barrett (TAKEDOWN MMA) and Anthony Kettle (PANTHER FIGHTING ARTS ACADEMY), the league aims to showcase the talents of Cape Town Fighters. CFL will give both amateurs and professionals a chance to compete, not only with each other, but also with fighters from across the country and abroad, right here in the Mother City.
Recent years has seen a boom in the popularity of Mixed Martial Arts, thanks to the introduction of Leagues like the UFC, (Ultimate Fighting Championship) in the USA, and more recently the EFC Africa (Extreme Fighting Championship) in Africa.
Although the sport is seeing a major growth, many talented local fighters still lack the opportunity to test their abilities in the cage. As both coaches and gym owners, Gary and Anthony recognized the need for a platform for these up and coming fighters to show the world what they are made of. The two decided to pool their resources, knowledge, and know how, in order to put on a fighting extravaganza the likes of which Cape Town has not seen before.
By hosting tournaments throughout the year, Cape Fight League hopes to not only afford these fighters much needed fighting experience, but also to grow the sport, by giving Capetonian fight fans a chance to enjoy top class fighting entertainment.
Cape Fight League will make its debut at the Bellville Velodrome, on 4 February 2012. Fight fans can look forward to an exciting night of fights, fun and entertainment. less
