/A WORD OF ART was founded in 2009 by Ricky Lee Gordon as an artist-run project space celebrating Newbrow aesthetics and practices with the intention of creating immersive experiences over white-wall gallery exhibits. Over the past four years we have supported a wide range of initiatives reflective of this new subculture, which blends contemporary fine art with lowbrow influences such as street art, graffiti, tattoo, skate and surf culture, outsider and pop art. less

Under the banner of MacBob Productions, his highly successful production house, Aaron has teamed with his wife and professional partner, actress Lisa Bobbert, in their award-winning two-hander, Defending the Planet, as well as appearing in a succession of other hit shows including The Revenge of the Pink Panties, Sex Bugs And Rock ’n Roll, Belly Laughs, and Abbamaniacs, their hugely popular tribute to the Swedish super group, Abba.
Among his many awards, Aaron received the Durban Theatre Awards’ The Mercury Personality of the Year Award in 2007. While his work in the South African Theatre industry has always focused largely on getting his large and ever-growing audience base of McIlroy followers to laugh till they cry, his creative skills as a fully trained and highly experienced actor and stage producer of many years’ standing extend far beyond the scope of general Stand-up comedy entertainers.
A hallmark of Aaron McIlroy’s shows is that of the sheer value-for-money quality they carry, as fully-fledged, uniquely presented theatrical entertainment, as opposed to mere off-the-cuff joke-spinning (although in the latter category, too, when it comes to ‘winging it’ in the heat of the moment, he has few equals).
In short, Aaron is notorious for getting his audiences’ abs aching and tears of mirth rolling. Director Susan Monteregge, who has worked with Aaron frequently, credits him with “single-handedly transforming theatre into an extreme sport.” Experience him in action, and you’ll see why. less

Well it started in 1977 when they met for the first time at Cairngorme Caravan Park near Springs where Henry’s Band,
”Eternal Now” was doing an afternoon show, the drummer had invited Dave along for a jam. Dave plugged into Henry’s amp, not a thing guitarists let other guitarists do usually, but then Henry’s a nice guy :-), and so a friendship started. Between Dave’s work in the Hotel business and Henry’s work as an Engineering rep they would get together in the afternoons and at weekends and play just for the fun of it. After a while they both realised they just wanted to play music and not “Hotel” or“Rep” it. They went for an audition with Maurice Fresco who got them their first pro gig at the “Rebel Inn” in Benoni on 1st of November 1978 (Thanks Maurice). The hotel manager at the time needed a name to advertise, so he christened them "Abbott and Crabb".

Nee, eerder `n MANSGROEP met woema en dinamika. ADAM is `n groep waar manlikheid botoon voer. Die drie lede is almal kunstenaars in eie reg. Hugo Ludik wat geen bekendstelling nodig het nie, Reynardt Hugo wat ook beter bekend is as dr. Tertius Jonker van Binnelanders faam en Joe Foster 'n gevestigde musiekant,liedjieskrywer en vervaardiger. ADAM beloof om Suid- Afrika iets te gee wat hulle nog nie voorheen gesien of gehoor het nie.

KLEURVOL, - die titelsnit is nie net vol kleur nie, maar vol van die bestanddele vir `n weghol sukses. By die 1 ste aanhoor daarvan kan jy dink dat dit gaan oor die 3 bekende manne se voorkoms. Begin jy egter te luister, besef jy dat die groep geseënd is met uitsonderlike stemme en ongeëwenaarde verhoogpersoonlikheid.
ADAM het dadelik `n platekontrak losgeslaan by STORM Rekordz en saam gaan ADAM en STORM mense laat wonder hoekom die groep nie lankal gestig is nie.
Reynardt Hugo:
Reynardt het in 2005, as 18 jarige, sy studies in B.A. Drama by die Universiteit van Pretoria begin. Dit is hier waar hy die fynere kuns van teater en musiekteater begin leer het, asook n passie ontwikkel het vir die uitvoerdende kunste. Onderleiding van die bekende Maurie Mostert, het Reynardt se talent as sanger sterk na vore gekom, en hy het onder andere die hoofrol losgeslaan in die bekekende musiekblyspel, Smokey Joe’s Café. Tydens sy studies het Reynardt ook rolle losgeslaan in bekende teater stukke insluitend: Anna Frank, Pantagleize, Boesman My Seun, en ook Alice In Wonderland. Met ontvangs van sy graad, einde 2007, het Reynardt bewys hy het aspekte van teater soos regie, tegnies, sang, stemwerk, radiowerk en beweging, om maar net n paar te noem, baasgeraak. Einde 2007 het Reynardt sy eerste televisie rol losgeslaan in die Amerikaanse reeks, Life is Wild. Die gevolg hiervan was dat hy rolle in twee internasionale televisie adverstensies gekry het. In 2008 was Reynardt op eie bodem te sien in die musiekblyspel, Houtkruis. Kort hierna het sy grootste deurbraak tot dusver gekom toe hy die rol loslaan van Dr. Tertius Jonker in die immergewilde Afrikaanse sepie, Binnelanders. Reynardt vertolk deesdae steeds die rol, en sy karakter is meer gewild as ooit. Gevolglik is sy kalender vol met besprekings vir werk as seremonie meester en publieke verskynings by verskeie glansgeleenthede.
Hugo Ludik:
Hugo, 27, se musiekloopbaan het begin terwyl hy besig was om te studeer as regsstudent aan die Universiteit van Stellenbosch. Teen die tyd het Hugo al vir meer as 8 jaar kitaar gespeel, maar nog nooit in die publiek sy sangtalent gewys nie. In 2003 neem Hugo die eerste keer deel aan die Universiteit se inter-koshuis serenade kompetisie, waar hy optree saam met 15 ander mans in n a cappella groep. Die groep vorder toe ook deur na die finale rondte. In hierdie tyd begin Hugo ook sy merk maak op die Afrikaanse musiekfront deur saam met sy broer, sanger en akteur, Stefan Ludik, regoor die land te toer en op te tree met die Egoli roadshows. Hugo en Stefan tree dan vir die volgende 5 jaar saam op en doen optredes by meeste feeste en ‘venues’ regoor die land. In 2008 besluit Hugo om sy horisonne te verbreed en begin saam met verskeie ander kunstenaars optree. Met die interaksie met ander kunstenaars besef Hugo daar’s n te kort aan oorspronklike liedjies in die land, en gevolglik begin hy om self liedjies te skryf. In Oktober 2008 wen Hugo Huisgenoot Tempo se eerste liedjieskrywerskompetisie met die liedjie, Papsopwinterwaternat, wat geskryf is deur Hugo en sy vriend Willie van der Merwe, en wat toe later deur Kurt Darren opgeneem is. In 2009 slaan Hugo n rol los in die Performer Teater se produksie, Dance Some More, wat 6 maande hardloop en wat gevolglik as die teater se suksesvolste produksie nog beskou word. Hugo het al opgetree saam met verskeie kunstenaars soos Willem Botha, Kurt Darren, Jaco Labuschagne, Matt Stern Christiaan Kritzinger, Stefan Ludik en Ghapi. En liedjies uit sy pen kan gevind word op verskeie kunstenaars se albums soos, Kurt Darren, Willem Botha en Pieter Naude.
Joe Foster:
JOE 28, is gebore om musiek te maak, te skryf en te vervaardig. Voordat hy die ouderdom van 10 jaar bereik, begin hy al om die klavier te bemeester. Op 15 begin JOE om liedjies te skryf en op te optree. Hy het ook soos ba... less

Together with friends we spent many nights around a bottle of wine (or two) dreaming about the adventures we will have on this beautiful, primal continent. Much to our dismay, we discovered that too many of our fellow South Africans thought that visiting any other African country was tantamount to a suicide mission. I can still remember one person’s reaction when we told him that we were moving to Ghana, he practically swallowed his tongue in horror!
And so it came about that we decided it was time to show the world that Africa does not have to stand back when it comes to worthwhile places to visit and amazing things to do. In February 2012, we started to put our idea into action and the result is this guide to Africa. Since we were amateurs at travelling in Africa ourselves, we thought we were perfectly qualified to take on this mammoth task. Currently based in Ghana, we travel when we can, almost always to other African countries, and we are yet to be disappointed.
We hope that Africa for Amateurs will encourage more travellers to change their flight details to visit one of the most interesting continents on the planet. And if you are an expat, then Africa for Amateurs will show you that there is plenty of fun to be had wherever you may find yourself. less

Stray animals are fetched and taken to the kennels where the AWS Helderberg endeavours to re-home them.

Since the 4-star Aquila Private Game Reserve was founded, its ethos and that of our team of dedicated staff, has always been to educate guests on the importance of wildlife conservation, how it affects us all and what we as individuals can do to protect it and indeed the environment.
Aquila is not yet another luxury game reserve and lodge, its primary purpose is to offer an educational experience to all who visit in the hope that knowledge will enrich our understanding of the importance of living in harmony with Mother Nature.
Over the years, Aquila Private Game Reserve has gone to massive efforts and expense to source and re-introduce wildlife into the Cape region so that local residents and visitors alike can benefit from same and we are therefore proud to offer our visitors an opportunity to experience a Big 5 safari.
In another of our conservation efforts, we currently offer our visitors a complimentary educational introduction to our cheetahs, highlighting the plight of the free ranging cheetah and their critically diminishing numbers. It is important to note that our cheetahs were captive bred and not ‘born free’ nor do they form part of Aquila’s game drive and the experience is strictly controlled and in the interest of cheetah survival worldwide. Guests however are not allowed to directly interact with the cheetahs but are given a comprehensive talk on the plight of these beautiful cats. less
